AirAsia Inaugural flight Melaka - Penang

I have always thought of flying out of Melaka airport. Previously only Malindo Air serve Melaka to Pekan Baru, Penang, Langkawi and Kota Bahru. Flying in turboprob plane are not cheap. One way fare to Penang will cost from Rm 99 to Rm 199.

For those who follow my tweets will know that i have asking Tan Sri Tony Fernandes about Airasia flight to Melaka. I have been tweeting with him a few times and he is a down-to-earth CEO and would replied all my tweets.

Yesterday 1st July mark another chapter for Melaka Airport. Airasia began its first commercial flight from Penang to Melaka 7x weekly. The flight will depart from Penang at 1.20pm and arrive at 2.25pm and departure from Melaka is 2.50pm and arrival at the Penang International Airport at 4.00pm

After having a thought of purchase a ticket, finally decide to use my Airasia Big Points since it now only valid for 2 years.

The arrival of AK6284 rego 9M-AFW

Aerial view of Melaka

AK6285 the inaugural flight to PEN depart Melaka airport at 3.04pm and arrived in Penang airport at 4.00pm, 5 minutes short of Malindo Air which depart 18 minutes earlier from Melaka.

After spending about 1 and half hours  at the airport, it is time to fly back to Kuala Lumpur. The aircraft rego 9M-AQR parked at the last gate of the KLIA2 domestic wing. Walking distance from the gate to arrival hall took about 8 minutes.

Took dinner at Premium Lounge Plaza and enjoy 2 glasses of beer. At 8.10pm, StarMart Express bus has finally arrived and i am on the back after 5 hours out of Melaka.

A fantastic experience of inaugural flight . Hope there will be more new routes from Melaka Airport in coming months.

We spent about 45 minutes before we heading north to imperial city of Hue. The journey took us about 3 hours although the distance is only 100km due to the winding road and limited speed access throughout the tunnel.

We depart Hue for Danang at 2.45pm. The journey again took us 3 hrs. Most of us were sleeping in the bus. Along the journey, we went through Vietnam's longest tunnel at 6.5km.

Upon arrival at Danang, we stop at a local product shop,

Beach opposite the local product shop.

Panaroma of Danang at night from the sky lounge of Muong Thanh Hotel over looking Han River.
While enjoying the dragon bridge's fire and water display, we didnt realised that at the same time on the right part of the river, there are a tragedy happened in front of Novotel Hotel (far right). A river cruise was capsized because of overloading ended with 3 fatalities.

DAY 3 - Da Nang - Hoi An

The journey start with a visit to Champa Museum.

One of the theory, the people of Champa were descended from settlers who reached the Southeast Asian mainland from Borneo about the time of the Sa Huynh culture, though genetic evidence points to exchanges with India. Sa Huynh sites are rich in iron artifacts, by contrast with theDong Son culture sites found in northern Vietnam and elsewhere in mainland Southeast Asia, where bronze artifacts are dominant. The Cham language is part of the Austronesian family. According to one study, Cham is related most closely to modern Acehnese.

Then we proceed to Hội An a beautiful city in Vietnam, just south of Da Nang. The Old Town of Hoi An is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city possessed the largest harbour in south-east Asia in the 1st centuryand was known as Lâm Ấp Phố (Champa City). Between the seventh and 10th centuries, the Cham (people of Champa) controlled the strategic spice trade and with this came tremendous wealth. The former harbour town of the Cham at the estuary of the Thu Bồn River was an important Vietnamese trading centre in the 16th and 17th centuries, where Chinese from various provinces as well as Japanese, Dutch and Indians settled. During this period of the China trade, the town was called Hai Pho (Seaside Town) in Vietnamese. Originally, Hai Pho was a divided town with the Japanese settlement across the "Japanese Bridge" (16th-17th century). The bridge (Chùa cầu) is a unique covered structure built by the Japanese, the only known covered bridge with a Buddhist temple attached to one side.

if you like toilered-made costume or shoe, Hoi An is the place for you. A pair of Cow Leather Thigh High Boots cost USD 75

DAY 4 - Hoi An - Da Nang Airport

After breakfast, we departed Hoi An for flight to Kuala Lumpur. Our flight AK649 supposed to depart at 1220 was delayed until 1315 but arrival at KLIA2 was on-time. 9M-AHT ferries us back to Malaysia.

Verdict: Should skip imperial city of Hue, having more time exploring Da Nang and Hoi An. Weather was extreme. At 38 deg celcius, i would rather stay in door.
